As so many long-time park and recreation leaders retire, they take with them (among other things) personal relationships, community contacts and years of experience. And, because park and recreation agencies are sometimes looked at as “fun and games,” they are often left out of serious community conversations. In addition, when park and recreation professionals are not visibly represented during formal and informal discussions, they may be looked at as non-essential, dispensable or replaceable. Benefits and solutions “branding” improves everything from morale and attitude to funding and resource development.
For administrators this session is a professional investment. Budget cuts translate to staff cuts. Don't leave your career to chance. Position yourself as a community leader in order to increase your value as a paid or unpaid staff member or citizen advocate.

Lecture, small group discussion, audience participation

Learner Assessment |
Through small groups activities participants will list places to find community contacts and groups. Written exercises will enable participants to commit a benefits-based brand identity to paper. Participants will assess their current circle of influence through a brief quiz. They will also design a short action plan to help them implement ideas upon their return to their community.
